Our Story

Mr David Axon Khoza was born in 1960/06/05 in a small village of Timbavati under bushbuckridge municipality in South Africa. His traditional name was “Nghilazi” meaning “Glass” as he was the only son from his mother as the first wife from three wife’s his father Mafunyani Elias Kapama Khoza had. Axon hails from the shanghaan/Tsonga tribe. He studied and completed his junior certificate then went to Johannesburg In search for work in the mines after the passing of his father in order to take care of his mother and siblings.
In 1995 he came back from Johannesburg to work on bush as he also had love for the nature and also his culture as while he was in the city some of his friends they were still in their tradition and when he looked back home nothing was still existing concerning the shanghaan culture. In 1996 he met with Bruce and Judy Meeser who helped him to start a village in their property called “Nyani” which means Truth. Axon moved to his place of birth and built another village after Bruce and Judy sold their property in 2010 and the village was named after his late father “MAFUNYANI” which is in two words MAFU meaning “Milk” and NYANI meaning “Truth” which is Milk of truth or Truthfull Milk. He passed away in 2011 a year later after his great work in the community by bringing the cultural experience to the community and helped out most of the young generation through his school programs of teaching learners about the importance of our heritage and he was burried a day before his birthday 🎉🎉 and he left behind his wife and 8 children 4 boys and 4 girls who as a family they are trying to continue with his work and teach the youth and everyone who is interested in learning about the history of the Tribe.

About Us

Matimba the second son of Axon has now taken over his father’s reigns in running the village with the help of his siblings and mother. He has learnt a lot from his father while he was growing when his father would teach around about the history of their tribe. Not knowing your history you’ll never know where you are going, as a tree without roots cannot survive. These are words matimba learned from his father which is why as a family they decided to carry on with Axon”s legacy to pass down the culture to the young generation and also to everyone across the world.
